Second wave of Rock Band DLC features David Bowie
Tiz' the second week of Rock Band availability which means that it's also the second week of Rock Band downloadable content hitting the Marketplace. And this week David Bowie is the headlining DLC star with three of his songs available for purchase in two different ways. You can download the David Bowie Pack which includes "Moonage Daydream", "Queen Bitch" and "Heroes" bundled together for 440 Microsoft points or purchase each song individually for 160. Though, we are semi-confused to why exactly "Moonage Dream" is the only master recording while the other two songs are covers. We guess Mr. Bowie has a tight leash on his music and believes in the 33% rule which only allows 33% of his digitally distributed music to be original. Yeah, it's possible.Today's Rock Band DLC

Does anyone actually like David Bowie? I've never met anyone who does.
TomCo @ Nov 28th 2007 8:40AM
I do.
sgulasch @ Nov 27th 2007 10:59AM
It's alright. When you guys become teenagers or enter puberty lots of changes will occur and you'll start seeing things differently. Maybe you'll meet some new people with creative interests.
Jon @ Nov 27th 2007 11:01AM
lol... like Good Charlotte.
These kids are hopeless.
baef @ Nov 27th 2007 11:05AM
Why do they pick such bad songs? I can understand Bowie, but pick some popular songs.
VOS @ Nov 27th 2007 11:06AM
Bowie is the shit and all but can we get some metal? They should have genre packs and or have the fans vote on songs that should be released.

"Does anyone actually like David Bowie? I've never met anyone who does."
Is this serious? I mean, really? I know more people that like Bowie than don't. And those who don't typically aren't even familiar with much of anything he's done.
I'm only interested in the one that isn't a cover, myself. The guy they had cover Ziggy Stardust in GH1 wasn't that great so I'm not optimistic about these.
Heroes and Moonage Daydream are reasonably popular songs, in any case. There's others I'd like to see before Heroes, but Moonage Daydream has some fun guitar work in it and it's definitely fun to sing.

Hey Gemini, my name is itsburnsie, and I like David Bowie.
There, now you've met someone who likes David Bowie.
/One of the songs should have been Ziggy Stardust
//Favorite track from the original GH

I am really looking forward to Moonage Daydream. My band used to play that song, and it was a lot of fun. I'd buy the 3-pack if Heroes wasn't a cover (Robert Fripp, FTW!), but unless I can hear the cover first, I don't really think it's worth the cost/risk.
Etchasketchist @ Nov 27th 2007 11:58AM
Such a missed opportunity:

Magic Dance would be awesome.
I wouldn't mind Chilly Down either.
Wilson @ Nov 27th 2007 12:30PM
@4 You did not just compare Good Charlotte to David Bowie, at least he had talent at some point while the other idiots... meh.
caslaw @ Nov 27th 2007 12:47PM
Bowie is awesome. For some reason I always saw him as the Peter O'Toole of rock n' roll. Those people who only know him since the pop album "Let's Dance" don't understand what this guy is about. Setting aside his later pop albums, he was always way ahead of the curve. Ziggy Stardust was released in 1972(!), and is up there with Dark Side of the Moon in terms of cutting edge albums.
Moonage Daydream is great (although I would have picked Five Years over it), but Queen Bitch is what I was waiting for. Hunky Dory is a great album and Queen Bitch is the rocking song on the album. I am CRUSHED that it is a cover and not original, particularly given the quality (or lack thereof - i.e, vocals) some of the covers on rock band. I just don't get the Heroes pick (it is fairly repetitive and flat) -- I would have gone with something else from that time period, i.e., Fame, or Rebel Rebel.
I sincerely hope that when the Grateful Dead songs are released they are not covers - I don't think I could bear it.
Jon @ Nov 27th 2007 1:00PM
@12 um exactly, I didn't compare them at all. I actually was making fun of what 'kids-these-days' think of as creative interests.... wow. I thought the sarcasm was dripping from the comment, but maybe you are just dense.

I have around 20 Bowie CDs, some records, a few t-shirts, all the dvds (the video collection and ziggy stardust ones are priceless), and a promotional cardboard cut-out.
My dog is named Dorsey after his current bass player.
I'm a fan.

Can we all agree about one thing? Music is subjective, and that's what makes it great.
You're going to either like something or hate something. Just because some of the younger folks around here haven't heard of Bowie doesn't mean that "Kids these days know jack shit about good music."
Music is in the ear of the listener, so long as there is someone out there to appreciate it, it's good.
Not everyone can appreciate a Rembrandt, doesn't mean the guy was a bad painter.
Some people need to get over themselves and their pretentious attitudes towards music.
Frank @ Nov 27th 2007 1:48PM
no disrespect intended. i just hear too many people whine about musical tastes.
Mikeawesome @ Nov 27th 2007 1:53PM
That’s pretty freaky, Bowie
Isn’t it cold out in space, Bowie?
Do you want to borrow my jumper, Bowie?
Does the space cold make your nipples go pointy, Bowie?
Do you use your pointy nipples as telescopic antennae to transmit data back to
Earth?
Bet you do, you freaky old bastard you
Hey Bowie, do you have one really funky sequined space suit?
Or do you have several ch-changes?
Do you smoke grass out in space, Bowie?
Or do they smoke Astroturf?
Ooh!
Receiving transmission from David Bowie’s nipple antennae
Do you read me, Lieutenant Bowie?
This is Bowie to Bowie
Do you hear me out there, man?
This is Bowie back to Bowie
I read you loud and clear, man
Ooh yeah, man!
Your signal’s weak on my radar screen
How far out are you, man?
I’m pretty far out
That’s pretty far out, man
Ooh- ah- ooh!
I’m orbiting Pluto
Ooh- ah- ooh!
Drawn in by its groovitational
(Groovitational pull)
I’m jamming out with the Mick Jagger-nauts
Ooh, and they think it’s pretty cool
Sofun @ Nov 27th 2007 2:14PM
Bowie is awesome. The Man Who Sold The World & Hunky Dory are such great albums. Kids these days know jack shit about good music.
Sofun @ Nov 27th 2007 2:14PM
I agree music is subjective. But music tastes are also trained. Pop music sources such as the radio and mtv ram the same songs over and over down listeners throats. People only know what they've heard and what they're hearing, for the most part, in the last 10 years is terrible. Rock is being killed by the big corporations that market bubblegum trash.
Venture out, there's more than mtv & Good Charlotte.
Frank @ Nov 27th 2007 2:54PM
I'm 24, the youngest of 5, and my entire family are musicians (myself included). I've been fortunate enough to say music plays a very important part of my life.
I've been subjected to everything... Miles Davis, Muddy Waters, BB King, Django Reinhardt, SRV, Metallica, Pantera, Suicidal Tendencies, Soundgarden, Alice Cooper, Bowie, The Beatles, Debbi Gibson, Janet Jackson, 2 Live Crew, Tupac, Ice (Cube or T), (insert another random band/musician here here). I've gained a greater appreciation for music as an expressive artform, whether I particuliarly cared for that band or musician or not.
I just don't like the example of Good Charlotte. It's just such a basic stereotype of the younger generation... not all young people are mindless, corporate drones. And since when does MTV have any influence on music? I could've sworn they were a reality tv network now.
There are plenty of talented young bands out there. Unfortunately they don't sell as well because they don't fit that cookie-cutter mold you speak of.
Thankfully there's an easy to use media platform called the Internet (I believe Al Gore created it). Bands can now get the exposure they rightfully deserve and get their message across and in alot of cases, it's working and there's lots of start up companies willing to help them succeed in getting records and merch out there. People don't really look to MTV for music anymore.
erivera3 @ Nov 27th 2007 3:34PM
I think RockBand's goal was to choose the worst, most unpopular song(s) from each band and put them in the game. The game is fun as hell, but honestly, Dead or Alive by Fall out Boy? Maybe the good songs are too expensive to get.....
Christopher7xii @ Nov 29th 2007 1:02PM
...Worst, most unpopular songs...?
Uhh...
Dani California - RHCP
Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet
Ballroom Blitz - Sweet
Blackhole Sun - Soundgarden
Blitzkreig Bop - Ramones
Celebrity Skin - Hole
Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
I Think I'm Paranoid - Garbage
Sabotage - Beastie Boys
Say It Ain't So - Weezer
Should I Stay or Should I Go Now - The Clash
Tom Sawyer - Rush
Vasoline - Stone Temple Pilots
Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi
When You Were Young - The Killers
Roxanne - The Police
War Pigs - Black Sabbath
Touch of Grey - Grateful Dead
I Fought the Law - The Clash
Buddy Holly - Weezer
-----------------------------------
But yes... Somehow they're picking the "worst, and most unpopular" songs because you disagree with a boring band's boring song. It's not like Fall Out Boy has a lot of good ones to choose from. Dance Dance and what... Thanks for the Memories? If anything, Panic! should have been on Rock Band in place of Fall Out Boy
murph @ Nov 27th 2007 4:51PM
Passing on Bowie.
Still on the fence about Black Sabbath (next week?) b/c they are all covers.
Definitely getting Weezer "Buddy Holly" when it comes out. Where is "Hash Pipe"? ;)
badarsemother3k @ Nov 28th 2007 12:59AM
I'm 15 and love Bowie's music. The problem is kids these days don't try new music and just buy what they catch off mtv. I enjoy a rather eclectic range of genres because I grew tired of the cookie cutter bands. Thank you, bittorent.
